BAINBRIDGE ISLAND LITTLE LEAGUE

Volunteers

Bainbridge Island Little League is an all-volunteer organization that depends on families and community members to provide a quality Little League experience. The consistency and quality of each season are directly tied to how many people step into volunteer roles.

Families may choose to volunteer or, if preferred, opt out of the volunteer commitment by paying a $150 non-volunteer fee per family at registration. If a family commits to a specific volunteer role but does not complete that commitment by the end of the season, the fee may be assessed to their account.

  • Manager (Head Coach) – Organize practices, game preparation, and overall team leadership.

The Manager is responsible for planning practices, preparing the team before games, and making in-game strategy decisions. Managers are expected to model and enforce Little League rules and policies and to set clear expectations for behavior, attitude, and sportsmanship for players, coaches, parents, and fans.

Managers are selected and approved by the BILL Board of Directors before each season. If you are interested in managing a team, please contact the Board ahead of the season to be considered.

  • Assistant Coach – Support the Manager with instruction, strategy, and team management.

Assistant Coaches help the Manager at practices and games with instruction, drills, and in-game strategy. They share responsibility for creating a positive environment, reinforcing league rules, and supporting overall team management.

Each team may have up to two Assistant Coaches, and the Manager has discretion to select and approve who fills these roles.

  • Umpire – Officiate games, apply rules, and help ensure a safe, fair contest.

Umpires serve as the on-field officials, calling balls and strikes, fair and foul, and outs and safes. They are responsible for starting and ending the game on time, helping maintain a safe playing environment, and enforcing the rules in an unbiased way.

This volunteer umpire role applies to AA Baseball and all other divisions have arrangements in place for umpires.

  • Field Prep (Field Crew) – Prepare fields before games and assist with post-game cleanup.

Field Prep volunteers help get fields ready before games and assist with cleanup afterward. This includes tasks like raking, lining the field, setting bases, and making sure the playing surface and dugouts are safe and ready for teams.

The standard commitment for this role is a minimum of four games over the course of the season.

  • Scorekeeper – Record the official game score, stats, and pitch counts using GameChanger.

Scorekeepers maintain the official game record, including runs, hits, outs, balls and strikes, and pitch counts. BILL uses scorekeeping for AA through Uppers Baseball and Intermediate through Juniors Softball.

Volunteers in this role are asked to commit to scoring at least four games over the season. BILL encourages the use of GameChanger as the primary scoring tool where possible.

  • Board & Committee Roles – Help guide league operations, safety, communications, and more.

Board and committee members support the long-term health of Bainbridge Island Little League, overseeing areas such as operations, safety, scheduling, sponsorship, communications, and facilities.

If you are interested in serving on the BILL Board or a committee, please reach out via the league contact information on the website.

How to Initiate a Volunteer Background Check

Safety and player protection are top priorities. All volunteers with Bainbridge Island Little League are required to complete a Little League–approved Volunteer Application / Background Check each year. Volunteers may not participate in activities with players until they have been cleared.

To start your background check:

If you have questions about the process or timing, please contact the Safety Officer through the Background Check page.
